In this post, I will explain the workflow I have followed for this project. The main objective was to create a modular Chinese temple using Blender. For rendering and scene creation, I utilized Unreal Engine. To ensure optimal performance, I employed techniques such as atlas material creation and low-polygon objects, while avoiding extremely low-poly models.
To begin, I designed the modular components of the Chinese temple in Blender. This approach allowed me to create versatile pieces that can be easily arranged and assembled in different configurations. Attention to detail was crucial to ensure seamless integration and maintain a consistent aesthetic throughout the temple.
Once the temple modules were finalized, I imported them into Unreal Engine to build the scene and set up the lighting. Unreal Engine offers powerful rendering capabilities, making it an excellent choice for creating visually appealing environments. I experimented with different lighting setups to achieve various moods and atmospheres within the scene.
Performance optimization was a key consideration throughout the project. I utilized atlas materials to combine multiple textures into a single texture atlas. This technique reduces draw calls and optimizes memory usage, contributing to improved performance without compromising visual quality.
Additionally, I focused on creating objects with an efficient polygon count. While maintaining sufficient detail, I optimized the geometry to keep the overall polygon count low. This balance allowed for smooth performance while preserving visual fidelity.
In addition to the modular assets and performance optimizations, I also created various visual effects (VFX) and particle systems. These elements were instrumental in bringing the different scenes to life and adding dynamic elements such as rain, snow, or fireflies. Experimenting with lighting further enhanced the mood and ambiance of the scenes.
Throughout the workflow, I iterated and fine-tuned different aspects of the project to achieve the desired result. The combination of modular design, Unreal Engine's rendering capabilities, performance optimizations, and the inclusion of VFX and particle systems contributed to creating a visually stunning and immersive Chinese temple environment.

The vegetation and flora in the scene were obtained from Quixel and Unreal Engine asset packs. I chose not to create the vegetation myself to focus on creating the other assets. By using pre-made assets, I saved time and effort while still achieving a visually rich and realistic environment. This allowed me to allocate more resources to creating the modular temple and other customized elements. The decision to utilize pre-made assets optimized workflow efficiency while maintaining a visually appealing Chinese temple in the forest setting.
